Documentary Emmy Nomination

We are thrilled that the documentary on Gil, Unlocking the Mysteries of Place with Gil Schafer, the newest installment of the Design in Mind series, has been nominated for a 2024 Boston-New England Regional Emmy Award. In the film, Gil leads a behind-the-scenes tour of several iconic projects while offering insight into his design process, discussing the importance of classical American architecture and how it’s best adapted for contemporary life, and sharing how the power of memory is crucial in creating an unforgettable place. It is currently airing on PBS stations nationwide, was produced by the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art, and is being distributed nationally by American Public Television (APT). SPRING BEGAN EARLY WITH A BEAUTIFUL STORY – and Home At Last book excerpt – on a downstairs “night club” we designed for a stylish client in the February issue of Town & Country. Following right on the heels of that story, was the March/April issue of Veranda, which, in addition to featuring a personal essay from Gil about his own design evolution and the creation of his new book Home At Last, showcased Lauren Santo Domingo’s beautiful East Hampton house on the cover. Working on Lauren’s home was a dream project, and it’s always a pleasure to revisit our collaboration with her, interior designer Virginia Tupker, and landscape designer Miranda Brooks. We are also immensely flattered by and appreciative of the many magazines and editors who have featured Home At Last in their pages and on their websites. Frederic reviewed the book in their spring issue, and separately, included the entry of The Renovation of Boxwood as an example of effectively using center tables for style and purpose. Architectural Digest and Veranda included the book in their “Best Spring Books” lists, 1stdibs ran a beautiful story about the book and our work, and we are thrilled that Traditional Home, Southern Home, and DuJour magazines also featured the book. Gil joined Alexa Hampton for a “52 Weeks of Design” Instagram live interview, and you can hear him chat about his career and what makes projects meaningful on recent episodes of the Business of Home, Ballard Design’s “How to Decorate,” and Fenimore Lane podcasts. Some of our favorite websites – Habitually Chic, The Glam Pad, The Potted Boxwood, and Design Chic, among many others – have also written about Home At Last. Southeast Designers and Architect of the Year Awards

Aimee was delighted to be a judge — along with Ellen McGauley, Executive Editor of Veranda, and interior designer Corey Damen Jenkins — for this year’s Southeast Designers and Architect of the Year Awards, an annual award and event organized by the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center (ADAC) that recognizes the Southeast’s best in architecture, contract design, and residential design. Aimee, Corey, and Veranda Editor-in-chief Steele Marcoux also spoke on a panel together as part of ADAC’s spring market, Design ADAC, discussing the current state of luxury in design and the elements of architecture and interiors that can create for a better life. Alumni Spotlight

We love keeping up with the accomplishments of past firm alumni and celebrating their successes. It was a treat to have Michael Harris, who was at G. P. Schafer Architect in the firm’s early days and is now Director of Architecture at Studio Indigo in London, send a snapshot of himself holding Gil’s new book. And Whitley Esteban — who spent many years at GPSA before becoming Studio Director at Roman and Williams and then founding her own firm, Studio Tre, with partner Ernesto Gloria, who both joined us at our Manhattan book launch party.
