Fall 2022
G.P. Schafer Architect 20th Anniversary

2022 marks the 20th anniversary of GPSA, and we celebrated the occasion with a cocktail reception on November 16th on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Over 250 people attended the festive evening including current team members and their spouses, clients, collaborators-including decorators, landscape designers, contractors, vendors, and craftspeople-as well as members of the design press and alums from the firm’s team over the last 20 years. At his toast of thanks to those gathered at the event, Gil remarked, “20 years ago when I opened my office out of a tiny one-room shoebox of a space on Spring and Lafayette Streets, I don’t know that I would have believed I would get the opportunity to work with so many amazing collaborators over the next two decades. But here we are all these years later, and it is truly thanks to all of you for being part of that incredible creative adventure together that we have been able to do the work we have. I raise my glass to each of you!”

2022 McKim, Mead & White Awards

We are incredibly honored to receive a McKim, Mead, and White Award from the New York chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art for this new stone country house, set on a dramatic, sloping 60-acre piece of property in New York’s northern Dutchess County. Designed in collaboration with Deborah Nevins for landscape and Thomas Jayne for interior decoration, the house was inspired by the Georgian and early Regency houses of the English countryside while creating an intentional interplay between architecture and landscape. What an honor to be once again included on Architectural Digest’s AD100 list for 2023. Our work wouldn’t be possible without our inspiring clients, talented collaborators, and hardworking team at GPSA, and we are thrilled to share this recognition with them.  [Photos by Eric Piasecki]

We’re thrilled to have a few of our projects included in Waterworks’ new book, The Ultimate Bath, which was published by Rizzoli in late October. To see more, please visit our Additional Books page >
